IPL 2020

Why has IPL 2020 been Shifted to UAE?

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is all set to host the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. With the ongoing speculations since March 2020 regarding the IPL schedule due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, everyone was waiting for the official announcement of the IPL 2020. The initial postponement of the much-awaited tournament has left a lot of people miserable as all the fans were eagerly waiting to watch their favorite cricketers on the field.

The BCCI has finally received the Central Government’s formal approval to conduct this year’s Indian Premier League in the UAE. But this is not the first time the United Arab Emirates has hosted a premier league cricket tournament. The first time that this shift has happened is due to the Assembly Elections in 2014.

This major decision taken by the BCCI for conducting IPL 2020 outside the home country was because of the growing COVID-19 cases in India. When a country hosts a sports tournament, it is required to have a world-class facility for the tournament to run smoothly. When it comes to UAE, it is known for its world-class infrastructure and provision for the best in terms of training equipment and ensures a safe environment by providing all the necessary protective measures needed to be acquired during the pandemic time.

As the gulf country has tackled the global pandemic splendidly with the least number of cases in recent times, it is a great place for hosting this important tournament. Three stadiums at which IPL2020 are being conducted are also perfectly chosen because of their locations. Because of the pandemic, there is a requirement to follow certain guidelines in order to safely conduct the tournament which the UAE is thoroughly following. They have also succeeded in containing the spread of the virus and had a lesser number of cases.

Regardless of the Geo-political Barriers and the Global Pandemic situation, UAE has always been welcoming of India, and the fact that the country carries experience in hosting a season of IPL to happen indicates that it is one of the best countries to conduct IPL 2020.
