Virat Kohli Decides to Quit RCB Captaincy after IPL 2021

A few days after Kohli announced that he would be giving up captaining the T20I captaincy, Virat shook his IPL fans yesterday by announcing that he will step down from leading RCB from the next edition. RCB fans and many Virat fans were left heartbroken after Kohli decided to step down from his role.

In a video released by RCB on social media, Virat revealed his intentions behind the decision. “I’ve spoken to the squad this evening before the second leg of the tournament starts to inform everyone that this is going to be my last leg in the IPL as captain of RCB,” Kohli said in the video message. “I spoke to the management this evening, something that was on my mind for a while, as I recently announced stepping down from T20 captaincy as well to manage my workload, which has been immense over the last so many years”. Kohli added.

Considered as one of the greatest batsmen of modern cricket, Virat Kohli has been leading the Indian team in all formats. While this has put an enormous workload on him, this 32-year star player has finally decided to lighten his burden. “This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me.” Virat said in the video. Virat Kohli has been part of Royal Challengers Bangalore since its inception in 2008 and leading the side since 2013. One of the most popular franchises in the IPL, RCB is yet to win their maiden title. Kohli’s decision to quit captaincy allows him to play freely and unleash the batsman in him. Kohli brought charisma to RCB with his bold attitude and aggression, and with players like Virat and AB De Villiers, the team is a favourite for many. On the other hand, Kohli’s leadership has confronted rising concerns in recent times. He is often compared to his deputy Rohit Sharma who successfully clinched five IPL titles to his franchise.

While some support his decision, few cricket experts have raised concerns about the timing of his sudden announcement ahead of the start of the second half of IPL 2021. This being his last season as a captain, let’s wait and see what Kohli delivers by the end of the tournament. RCB will kick off their second phase by taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi on September 20. With five wins in seven games, RCB is on the third spot on the points table and KKR, with four points is at the seventh position. Watch RCB vs KKR Live in match number 31 streaming live on YuppTV.
