Rajasthan Royals releases Steve Smith, Oshane Thomas, and others ahead of the IPL 2021 Auction
Another season of IPL is dawning upon us and we could not be any happier. IPL 2020 seemed like it had just finished, and we are close to the next IPL season again. The Pandemic led to IPL 2020 being postponed to September and moved it to UAE with no audience in the stands. While the pandemic has not gone away completely, India is ready for IPL 2021 and is ready to make the necessary preparations for it to be conducted at home like always.
IPL 2021’s schedule has not ben declared yet but pre tournament preparations are in full swing which includes the retaining and release of players and the auction. The list of retained and released players has been announced by the franchises recently and the auction is scheduled on 18th of February. By the looks of it many changes have been made in the teams to make them championship ready.
Here is how the Rajasthan Royals team looks like after the announcement.
Rajasthan Royals comprised of players like Steve Smith (C), Sanju Samson, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Rahul Tewatia (who stood out to be a star in IPL 2020), Andrew Tye, Shreyas Gopal, Tom Curran, Varun Aaron, etc. Of these players, Jofra Archer stood out to be the player of the series in IPL 2020 and Rahul Tewatia stole the spotlight with his outstanding performance in couple of matches.
Despite these performances, the team still stood at the 8th position by the end of the tournament. While one could expect many changes in the team, RR surprisingly let go of only some players retaining Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, Rahul Tewatia, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, David Miller, Andrew Tye, Shreyas Gopal, Robin Uthappa, Jayadev Unadkat, Manan Vohra, Mayank Markande, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Anuj Rawat, and Kartik Tyagi.
Steve Smith, Oshane Thomas, Varun Aaron, and Tom Curran are the among the released players including Akash Singh, Anirudha Joshi, Ankit Rajput, Shashank Singh. The decision to release the captain of RR team Steve Smith came as a surprise but the team announced that its decision was based on his unsatisfactory contribution to the team during his association and his performance in IPL 2020.
