Rain stops India vs New Zealand Semi-Final- Game to Continue today
The first Semi-Final between India and New Zealand began on 09th July 2019 but was abandoned due to rain after New Zealand scored 211 runs in 46.1 overs. The game was postponed till the reserve day and will be continued today on 10th July 2019 from the exact point where it was left out. Semifinal 1 was taking place in Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester.
The Semifinal 1 was organized between the teams that are at the first and fourth place in the points table. India and New Zealand arrived at the semifinals with 15 and 11 points respectively. Indian team won in 7 matches it had played in WC 2019. Losing only one, it had gained one point due to an abandoned match against New Zealand in the Leagues. New Zealand earned 11 points by winning 5 of the 8 matches played and one point due to an abandoned match against India.
India can be considered a stronger team, given its performance in the Leagues but performing in the leagues alone do not make a winning team. The Indian team had fantastic victories in the Leagues in all the matches except in the one played against England. Contrarily, New Zealand has had three losses in the Leagues, against Pakistan, Australia, and England and had stumbled a bit to enter the semifinals.
However, the team’s performance did not reflect any of this in the semi-final against India. Though New Zealand had lost 2 wickets early on in the semifinal, the captain of the team Kane Williamson played amazing innings and scored a magnificent 67. Ross Taylor, along with Kane Williamson, had continued scoring for the team. The team had lost 5 wickets and had scored 211 in 46.1 overs when rain stopped play.
The match will continue from the same point from 09:30 AM today and if it continues to rain, the winner will be decided by Duckworth Lewis Method.
