New Zealand vs South Africa: Will South Africa move ahead?

NZ vs SA ICC World Cup 2019

The 25th ODI of World Cup 2019 is between New Zealand and South Africa organized in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The match is going to start at 09:30 AM IST and is going to be broadcast and streamed live all over the world.

New Zealand is in the third position in the points table preceded by England and Australia. The team is one of the strongest in the WC 2019 and has 3 victories out of four. The other game against India was abandoned due to rain and the team was offered 1 point. South Africa had won only 1 game out of the 5 and was awarded one point due to an abandoned match. The team is at the 8th position on the points table followed only by Pakistan which earned the same number of points and Afghanistan that has not earned any points.

But points alone won’t be adequate to define a team’s performance. New Zealand had played with relatively weaker teams like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Though it had won by a massive margin against Sri Lanka, it was difficult for the team to defeat Bangladesh where it had won only by 2 wickets. Its first encounter against a stronger team was with India and since the match had been abandoned there was no way to observe the team’s performance impartially. So, today’s match against South Africa will be the first real test for the New Zealand team.

NZ vs SA ICC World Cup 2019

South Africa, on the other hand, played all its initial matches against stronger teams like England, Bangladesh, and India. The team was defeated in all the three matches which could justify the notion that the team is relatively weaker. Though there are fantastic players in the SA team like Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, Chris Morris, David Miller, Imran Tahir, Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, etc. South Africa had not been able to put forth its best foot forward. Though it had won a match against Afghanistan, given the performance of Afghanistan team in the tournament, it is not adequate to analyze the team’s performance.

But the victory against Afghanistan could have raised the morale of the South African team which can help the team perform better in today’s match against New Zealand. In conclusion, South Africa vs New Zealand match might prove to be significant for the analysts to perfectly estimate teams and their performances.
