India Wins PayTM Test Series Against New Zealand 2021

After missing out on an incredible victory by just 1 wicket in the first Test match, India came back strong to register a brilliant win against New Zealand in the second Test match and clinch the series by a 1-0 lead.

With a mammoth total of 540 to chase, New Zealand resumed Day 4 at 140/5 only to add 27 more runs before losing the remaining 5 wickets. Indian spinners Jayant Yadav picked 4 wickets and Ashwin got Nicholas to finish the game. India winning by 372 runs is their largest victory in a Test match. India came too close to winning the Kanpur test but fell short of just one wicket.

Ajaz Patel’s 10 wicket haul in the first innings is the highlight of the match and will be remembered for a long time. For India, Shreyas Iyer’s century at Kanpur, Mayank’s century in the first innings and Axar Patel’s quick 41 before India declared their second innings were few highlights. Mayank Agarwal is awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant century and a handy 62 in the second innings. Ravichandran Ashwin gets the Player of the Series for picking 14 wickets. This is his 10th Man of the Series award for Ashwin. This series win is India’s 14th in a row and continues India’s winning streak at home. Rahul Dravid starts his head coach tenure with a bang. Virat Kohli is now the first player with 50 international wins across the formats.

A victory over World Test Champion will serve as a booster for Team India ahead of the South Africa tour from December 17. India will play three tests and as many ODI in South Africa.
