India vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I – Shikhar Dhawan and Co Eye on Series Win
A brilliant half-century from Surya Kumar Yadav and a magical spell of 4/22 from Bhuvi guided India to a 38-run win in the first T20I against Sri Lanka. A clinical accomplishment from the Men in Blue helped India go 1-0 up in the three-match T20 series. India won the first T20I against Sri Lanka by 38 runs in Colombo on Sunday.
Sri Lanka opted bowling after winning the toss and constrained India to 164 in 20 overs, a slightly under-par total. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan led from the after Prithvi Shaw got out for 0. Sanju Samson, full of talent looked dashing, but he needs to convert into big scores. Surya Kumar Yadav took over the mantle from skipper and scored his second fifty laced with five boundaries and two sixes. Sri Lanka’s superb bowling in the death overs restricted India for 164.
While Lankan bowlers have done a brilliant job, the batsmen put them down once again. For Sri Lanka, Charith Asalanka was the top scorer. His quickfire 44 from just 26 balls included three fours and as many sixes. The Indian bowlers managed to keep the Lankan batsmen in check with wickets in regular intervals. It was Asalanka’s wicket that ultimately staggered the game in India’s favour, and they never looked back. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s four-wicket haul made him the first Indian bowler to pick 200 T20 wickets and was the Player of the Match for his tremendous effort. Deepak Chahar got two quick wickets while all other Indian bowlers got one wicket each. Yuzvendra Chahal was the most economical with a 4.75 economy rate.
“Everyone stood up to the occasion. Bhuvi and Krunal bowled well. Surya Kumar is a great player. Prithvi Shaw will bounce back,” said Dhawan post the match.
The two teams will now play in the second T20I on July 27 at the same venue. While India certainly looks to seal the series, it’s time for Sri Lanka to sizzle with the bat. Experience all the cricket excitement between India and Sri Lanka in the second T20 on SonyLIV and catch the action!
