ICC WORLD CUP 2019 : TEAM INDIA SQUAD
ICC cricket world cup 2019 will be played from 30th May to 14th July 2019 in England and Wales. The most awaited ICC quadrennial cricket tournament will be fought between 10 international teams in ODI matches. There will be a total of 48 games, 45 in the round-robin format as each team plays against the other 9 teams. This will be followed by 2 knock-out semi-finals between the top 4 teams based on points table. The final between the knock-out winners will be contested on 14th July. Fans from across the globe have already booked their seats to witness the ICC world cup 2019 live in the stadiums. Millions of people will be enjoying the games live on various channels also.
The teams have already landed in England and Wales and are competing in non-ODI warm up matches to get into the groove. The India squad for world cup was selected in April by the selectors under MSK Prasad. Team India under skipper Virat Kohli, arguably the best batsman in all formats of the game is all set to lift their 3rd world cup in the 12th edition of the ICC tournament. The destructive opening partnership of the flamboyant left paw Shikhar Dhawan and the hitman Rohit Sharma will be looking to give the team good starts followed by Captain Kohli to capitalize.
Number 4 which has been the doubtful position for India in the recent past seems to be taken by KL Rahul, the stylish right handed batsman. The in-form Dinesh Kartik gets another chance to share the wicket keeper gloves with the most amazing finisher in the game, MS Dhoni. Vijay Shankar, Kedar Jadhav, the pocket dynamite, Ravindra Jadeja and the explosive Hardik Pandya will fill the essential spots for all-rounders. The pace attack will be spearheaded by the world’s number 1 limited overs bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. The swing bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the experienced Mohammed Shami will share the new ball with Bumrah. The spin duo of China-man bowler Kuldeep Yadav and the leggie Yuzvendra Chahal will be looking to bamboozle the opposition batsman with their guile.
While the squad looks very balanced and great, there are a few players who just missed the flight to England. The left handed speedster Khaleel Ahmed who was picked up couple of months earlier to provide some variation to the pace attack failed to impress the selectors. The right handed stylish batsman, Ambati Rayudu was almost certain for his spot in the team as number 4, but he lost the chance due to a continued bad patch. The swashbuckling wicket keeper southpaw Rishabh Pant was left out because of his lack of form behind the stumps.
The defending champions Australia strengthened by the return of Smith and Warner will try their best to retain the trophy. England are looking in their best form in the recent past. However, team India with their numerous match winners are capable of not only neutralizing England’s home advantage, but also dethrone Australia to lift the world cup. The top 3 are the most prolific run scorers for India recently and fans will be hoping to see a 4th double ton from Rohit. KL Rahul and Vijay Shankar will look to make a mark at the grand stage. The players you watch out for though will be the legendary Dhoni, the ever improving quickie, Bumrah and the entertaining Hardik Pandya. The tournament promises to offer a highly entertaining one and will be closely followed by fans from all over the world.
