COVID-19 Lockdown has led to the postponement of one of the World’s most-watched Cricket Series Indian Premier League which had left the fans across the world in disappointment. IPL usually begins towards the end of March and will continue till May providing entertainment to the Cricket fans all over the world for over a month and a half. Due to the postponement of the series, while the fans got busy with other things, some cricketers have turned to self-exploration of their other skills and have debuted on short video social networking App, TikTok.
Among the many, Veteran Indian Batsmen Virender Sehwag, Irfan Pathan, Yousuf Pathan, Bowlers Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammad Shami, West Indies Batsmen Chris Gayle, Australian Batsmen David Warner, England Cricketers Kevin Pietersen, Danielle Wyatt, Pakistan Bowler Shoaib Akhtar, etc., are on TikTok and earned a significant number of followers.
While some of these cricketers joined the social app long before quarantine, some of them like Shoaib Akhtar have debuted during the time of Quarantine. The most popular cricketers who earned a massive following among these are Yuzvendra Chahal with more than 5 million followers, David Warner with over 4 million followers. He has been one of the most entertaining cricketers in the quarantine times and as expected, garnered more than 4 million followers worldwide. Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen, Danielle Wyatts, etc., have also been on the social app and have been making some great videos during the quarantine time.
While there has been no news of IPL happening anytime soon, with the rising cases of coronavirus in India, the tournament might be postponed further than October 2020. Some discussions of organizing the matches without any audience in the stadium have come to light, an idea that earned the support of renowned cricketers like Kevin Pietersen, but the implementation of it is still a mystery.
