IPL 2022

Brian Lara and Dale Steyn are part of SRH

Brian Lara and Dale Steyn part of SRH's

In a desperate attempt to change their fortunes in the forthcoming IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad is all set to make significant changes in the coaching unit. The franchise appointed Windies batting legend Brian Lara as batting coach and strategic advisor, Proteas speedster Dayle Steyn as bowling coach and Simon Katich as an assistant coach. Tom Moody will replace the England world cup winning coach Trevor Bayliss as the head coach. Muttiah Muralitharan will continue to be the spin coach for the franchise, and Hemang Badani will take charge as the fielding coach.

This will be Brian Lara’s first stint as batting coach for any franchise in IPL after being a regular commentator in the IPL commentary panel. Dayle Steyn, who played for SRH in the past, is back on the team in a new role. SRH is known for its fierce bowling, and Steyn addition will make it even more powerful. The franchise will miss VVS Laxman as he is appointed as director for National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

Sunrisers retained skipper Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, and Umran Malik. The biggest surprise is to release David Warner, under whose captaincy the Orange Army won the title in 2016 against RCB. It looked like a rift erupted between the franchise and Warner in the second phase of IPL 2021. The team might look to retain Natarajan, Jason Roy and some pacers. Will SRH change their fortunes and bounce back like CSK or do the last-minute woes continue to haunt the team?  Wait till February to see what destiny has in store for the Orange army?
