Bengaluru to host IPL 2022 Mega Auction on Feb 12 & 13
The fifteenth edition of IPL will witness the addition of two more new franchises making it a battle between 10 teams. Ahmedabad and Lucknow are all set to join the worlds biggest T20 cash-rich tournament in the forthcoming edition.
The existing eight teams have already retained and released their players ahead of the event. It was tough for the franchises to let go off some of their key players as the rules allowed a maximum of only four players to retain. Significant changes are expected when some big IPL specialists go under the hammer in the second week of February in Bengaluru. However, a few minor changes are expected in the coaching setup. The mega audition is sure to revamp team structures and anticipate an exciting contest. While ace players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Kane Williamson and Glenn Maxwell are retained by their respective franchises, top players like KL Rahul, David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Suresh Raina and Rashid Khan are released even after playing for a long time with the same team. With AB Devilliers announcing his retirement and Virat Kohli stepping down from captaincy, it will be interesting to see who leads Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The fourteenth edition of the IPL was a grand success despite playing in two legs, one in India and the other in the UAE. The second wave of Covid forced BCCI to shift the venue to the UAE in October. Chennai Super Kings grabbed the trophy with a powerful comeback, and Kolkata Knight Riders emerged runner-up. Delhi displayed complete dominance but lost to KKR one step away from the trophy. We will have to wait till February mid to know the complete player list of each franchise getting ready for an absolute cricket extravaganza.
