After its tenacious battle with Australia, Afghanistan fights it out against Sri Lanka today
Afghanistan team entered as a favorite underdog in the world cup this year. The team had evolved spectacularly in recent years and came close to giving a hard time to one of the mightiest teams of all time, Australia.
Afghanistan’s first match in WC 2019 was against Australia which took place on 01st June, Saturday in County Ground, Bristol. The team managed to score a total of 207 against the Giant, a score which Australia chased easily in 34.5 overs at the loss of 3 wickets. But the conviction of the Afghanistan team was visible in the game which was loved by the audience. Players like Najibullah Zadran scored a half-century and Rahmat Shah hit 43 runs contributing to the score. Afghanistan team was confident in its approach and put on its best game face while facing Australia. Since they are here to proclaim their boldness and establish a better position for themselves in world cricket, they will be playing with the same rectitude with Sri Lanka too.
Sri Lanka played its first match in WC 2019 against New Zealand on the same day. The team failed miserably in that match and managed to score a meager total of 136 before losing all wickets. Dimuth Karunaratne was the only player to have scored a significant total of 52. The next in line was Kusal Perera (29) and Thisara Perera (27). New Zealand chased this total in just 16.1 overs without losing a single wicket. The devastating defeat might have brought Sri Lanka to its knees but given the recent comeback of Pakistan against England who had faced a humiliating defeat at the hands of West Indies in the first match, we might expect Sri Lanka to bounce back.
