IPL 2021

A thrilling start to the resumption of IPL 2021 – KKR vs RCB

What seemed like a one-sided match turned into an intriguing thriller to provide a fantastic start to the second phase of IPL 2021. Chennai Super Kings registered a spectacular win against Mumbai Indians in the much anticipated first match of IPL UAE leg to claim the top spot on the points table. Responsible innings of unbeaten 88 from CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, followed by their disciplined bowling enabled Chennai Super Kings to quell their arch-rival Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in Dubai. With six wins in 8 games, Chennai moved to the top of the table with 12 points in their bag.

After winning the toss, CSK skipper MS Dhoni elected to bat, but Mumbai pacers Trent Boult and Adam Milne quaked Chennai Super Kings top order by reducing them to 24/4 by the end of Powerplay. Chennai suffered the early blows as their key players Faf Du Plessis and Moeen Ali returned to Pavillion with ducks; Raina and Dhoni got out at 4 and 3 runs. Despite a horrific top-order collapse, CSK’s right-handed opener Ruturaj built the innings with Ravindra Jadeja to add a 50 partnership. A few explorers from Dwayne Bravo at the end provided a respectable score of 156/6. In response to CSK’s 156, Mumbai started well, but Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur gave the initial breakthrough for CSK. In the absence of their skipper Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Mumbai lost wickets in regular intervals. After losing Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya in quick succession, the defending champions couldn’t handle the pressure and submitted to CSK. Although Saurabh Tiwary scored a much-needed half-century, it didn’t work in their favour.

Match number  31 will witness a clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi today. RCB, who is on the third spot on the points table, had won against KKR in their previous meeting earlier this year. The two-time champion KKR is currently at the seventh position on the leaderboard and need to win six of seven games to qualify for the playoffs. Will RCB continue its winning spree, or KKR beat RCB and climb the ladder?
